Day + 58

This has been quite a week It started off with some of Seth’s numbers going totally out of control and gave us quite a scare, requiring some tests to find out what was going on.   The good news is that these things have seemed to have been resolved and Seth is back on track. The stubborn bacterial infection is finally gone! I have a feeling that he will soon be on the blog again. As an indication of progress, Seth has been working with PT.  It is very slow but steady.  He is off IV food and has been doing a credible job of eating.  It seems that they have improved the food service so that it now rates as edible.   As I watch Seth, I realize how much energy is expended on just the very things we take for granted.  I am encouraged by his determination and look forward to his continued progress.

Seth and I look forward to your comments.  They are such an important part of the healing process.

With love and thanks for all your continued support.

  1. Infection gone, off IV food, working w/PT – all of this is EXCELLENT progress. Seth just keeps jumping the hurdles and heading toward that finish line of going home. Hang in there, you two – you’re a superb team. Combine your efforts w/this super cheering squad to urge you on, and the homecoming will be around the corner.
    Much love,
    Marci

  2. Glad to hear that the bacterial infection is GONE! Yay…baby steps. And that Seth is eating “real” food again is great news. The goal is hollandaise sauce, and Russ & Daughters lox and cream cheese…and all those wonderful things that will never, ever taste so good as when he first has them.

I think of you both daily, and give you both my honest, heartfelt wishes during this long road. I think, from seeing everyone on here, that Seth is rich in love.

    love and strength,
    a

  3. Karen, as I deal with my manorexia I hope that one day soon Seth and I are not just eating again together but cooking again together. And I want to be the first one to make him some nice challah French toast even if I can’t manage to eat a portion myself. Thank you for the update, shayneleh.

  4. once more so happy to hear from both of you. It definitely is a work in progress. Getting rid of the infection is a biggy. Now getting back your strength physically is the next obstacle. For sure you never lost your emotional strength and your will to be well.
Fighting the fight from afar with you both.

  5. We are glad to hear that the infection is gone, that’s positive news. Just getting to do PT is quite positive as well. The food being edible is a plus.

  7. Hang in there Seth. It gets better. Our family is praying for you everyday and you will soon be out of there in your own home. Keep working at small steps.

  8. Seth and Karen,

Remember, “the only way out is through”, and although the process has been painfully slow and filled with many obstacles, you are definitely making your way through and taking steps to the way out.

Your determination is an inspiration for many people, including two of my co-workers who are involved in difficult cancer treatments right now. Hearing your story has helped them to stay hopeful during very dark days.

    Best,
    Amy

  9. We have a date at Luger’s so hurry up and get out of there! Alexandra wants her steak. We are all thinking of you.

  10. dear seth and karen,

  11. So glad to see newest blog. I suspected things were not well when nothing was posted for awhile. We are all so glad that the latest problems seem under control and there is progress in PT and eating. You really need to get home if you now think hospital food is edible. Just think of the food as another medicine and imagine all the wonderful things you can have when you get home. Stay strong, Ronnie

  12. WOW! That’s all we can say is WOW. So much wonderful stuff all at once – very well earned and deserved at this point. keep it up!!!!!

  13. Thanks for the update. The body is such a strange contraption, but it seems like Seth’s is winning battles more and more handily each time. Keep those blog entries coming.

  14. I haven’t checked in for some time. Looks like there have been some ups and downs, but am glad to see an upswing. Boy, healing sure takes a lot of work. It’s a good thing Seth is a strong guy and can pull it off.

    Hi, Seth.

  15. Hi Seth, Drew told me about your blog so I thought I would pop in and check it out. It’s great to see that you have your mom by your side to support you. I know it’s difficult to never know what tomorrow will bring, but as long as you just take it one day at a time you can handle it. You’re lucky to be surrounded by friends like Drew and your mom, they make all the difference in the world. If you ever want to talk, just let Drew know. Keep smiling

  16. It was so good to read your blog that the fog is clearing and the Phoenix is rising from the ash!!! I am so thrilled that you are eating and doing the PT. Your strength is amazing and unyielding. I can’t wait to have a REAL conversation on the phone with you. Hopefully soon.

I am thinking of you this Thanksgiving as it was two years ago that you generously let the girls and I visit your office to watch the parade. We were sad that we did not get to see you. We promised each other to be in better contact so last Thanksgiving we spoke in keeping with the promise of talking more often (that would be better than every three to four years…yes!!!)

Please expect a call from me this Thanksgiving too. We all have so much to be thankful for. Love to mom. She is just an amazing woman.

Love, Elisa, Rachel and Megan E-)

  17. I am giving thanks that Seth continues to improve and maintain his positive outlook, that you (Karen) continue to provide all the mama love you and that both are part of my family and that your strength and love continue to inspire all of us.
